Emotional Intelligence: Building an Inclusive Leadership Environment (workshop), Emotions, Energy & Leadership (workshop)
After completing his graduate work in counseling and teaching as an adjunct professor of psychology at Iona College and the College of New Rochelle, John had an opportunity to join IBM in a corporate staff position in stockholder relations. From there, he moved into a management position in international assignments which provided HR support to executive expatriates assigned to APG in Tokyo and EMEA in Paris. His next positions were in the areas of employee and management development where he designed and delivered leadership training programs ranging from process management to creative thinking.
In 1992, he took his experience and interest in professional development to The New York Times in a staff trainer role that soon evolved into the director of training and development. He later held the position of senior internal consultant which reported to the vice president of human resources. The role combined elements of executive, leadership and organizational development across all functions at a time when the newspaper was experiencing record growth in publishing, circulation and advertising sales. During this period, he gained certifications administering the EQ-i, the ECI and the MSCEIT which were all developed using different theories and models of emotional intelligence.
After leaving the Times in 2008, John established E.I. Assessments, LLC where his consulting work integrates emotional intelligence theory into executive coaching and leadership development initiatives. He has also designed and delivered a diversity awareness program, Blue Eyes, Brown Eye: Emotional Intelligence, Power & Inclusion, which looks at the attitude and skills needed to be an inclusive leader. This program is currently being delivered to the front offices managers of several Major Team Baseball clubs including the Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees. His other clients include executives and managers from the New York Daily News, Mediamark Research & Intelligence, Sovereign Bank, Arrow Electronics, Diversified Search Odgers & Behndtson, Lipo Chemicals, Storeroom Solutions, Inc., Cricket Communications and Catholic Charities of New York. He also has subcontracting relationships with Guttman Development Strategies where he is coaching executive clients from Mars, Pfizer and Delaware North.
In 2009, he presented before the World Diversity Leadership Summit at the International Monetary Fund and the Institute for Supply Management on the topics of emotional intelligence, inclusive leadership and executive development. In 2010, John delivered workshop sessions for Jennifer Brown Consulting at the ESPN Women's Leadership Conference on developing emotional intelligence. He is also a faculty member for The Partnership Inc's Next Generation Executive program.
